What you’ll learn

LO1 — Measure, validate, trend and document temperature, pulse, respiratory rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, consciousness/new confusion and pain using safe nursing technique.
LO2 — Correctly calculate and interpret NEWS2, including supplemental oxygen scoring, single-parameter triggers and appropriate use of SpO2 Scale 1 versus Scale 2.
LO3 — Recognize physiological and non-physiological signs of deterioration and prioritize immediate ABCDE assessment and escalation over routine task completion.
LO4 — Apply graded escalation, repeat observation and reassessment principles while recognizing that clinical concern can require escalation even when NEWS2 is low.
LO5 — Communicate deterioration effectively using SBAR, involve patients/families appropriately, and adapt monitoring to GCC multilingual, cultural and employer-specific practice.

About this module

MOD-007 is module 2 of 5 in 1.2 Health Assessment & Basic Clinical Skills, inside Domain 1: Nursing Fundamentals & Clinical Essentials.

Adult vital-sign measurement, NEWS2 calculation and clinical deterioration recognition. NEWS2 is an adult acute-illness severity tool and does not replace clinical judgement. Paediatric, maternity and neonatal patients require population-specific systems. Local GCC/employer observation, oxygen, escalation, sepsis, rapid-response and emergency policies take precedence.

The course runs the full NMS competency journey: a diagnostic that maps your starting point, 20 illustrated lessons built from the approved course pack, 2 branching clinical scenarios, a digital simulation, quick-reference and flashcard revision, and a 41-question summative assessment at an 80% pass mark.

Audience: Internationally educated registered nurses preparing for GCC clinical practice and licensure.
