LO1 — Explain how HAIs arise and distinguish clinical infection, colonisation, contamination, and surveillance classification.

About this module

MOD-002 is module 2 of 5 in 1.1 Patient Safety & Infection Control, inside Domain 1: Nursing Fundamentals & Clinical Essentials.

This course develops the nurse's ability to prevent healthcare-associated infection (HAI) through reliable everyday practice and to apply insertion-support, maintenance, access, surveillance, recognition, and removal principles for central venous and indwelling urinary catheters. It focuses on preventing central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI) and catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI) while avoiding unnecessary devices, cultures, antimicrobials, and unsafe manipulation.

The course runs the full NMS competency journey: a diagnostic that maps your starting point, 10 illustrated lessons built from the approved course pack, 2 branching clinical scenarios, a digital simulation, quick-reference and flashcard revision, and a 20-question summative assessment at an 80% pass mark.

Audience: Internationally educated registered nurses preparing for GCC clinical practice and licensure.
