What you’ll learn

LO1 — Apply Standard Precautions consistently to all patients, in all care settings, regardless of known infection status.
LO2 — Perform a point-of-care exposure risk assessment and select gloves, gown/apron, mask or respirator, and eye/face protection appropriately.
LO3 — Demonstrate safe donning, use, removal, disposal, and hand hygiene without contaminating clothing, mucous membranes, or the environment.
LO4 — Differentiate Contact, Droplet, and Airborne Precautions and implement room, transport, equipment, communication, and visitor controls.
LO5 — Recognise and manage PPE or isolation breaches using immediate first aid, reporting, documentation, and occupational-health escalation.

About this module

MOD-001 equips nurses to interrupt healthcare-associated transmission by applying Standard Precautions to every patient, selecting personal protective equipment through a point-of-care risk assessment, and adding Contact, Droplet, or Airborne Precautions when indicated. It emphasises the decisions nurses make before, during, and after patient contact — not memorisation of isolated equipment lists.

The course pack contains a diagnostic (pre-course) assessment, a clinical refresher (Book A), a 15-slide visual storyboard with narration (Book B), two branching clinical scenarios, an OSCE skills station, revision material, and a 20-question summative (post-course) assessment at an 80% pass mark.

Audience: internationally educated registered nurses preparing for GCC clinical practice. Learning time: approximately 120 minutes plus observed skills verification. Practice alignment: WHO and CDC principles, Saudi MOH resources, and current employer policy.
