What you’ll learn

LO1 — Explain indications, contraindications, benefits and major risks of oral, enteral and parenteral nutrition support, applying the principle 'use the gastrointestinal tract when it is functional and safe.'
LO2 — Safely assess and manage prescribed enteral nutrition, including tube/access identification, position verification, feeding-system hygiene, aspiration precautions, flushing, tolerance monitoring and medication safety.
LO3 — Safely manage prescribed parenteral nutrition, including solution/label verification, vascular-access assessment, aseptic connection, pump administration, line protection and infection prevention.
LO4 — Recognize and respond to complications of nutrition support, including tube displacement/occlusion, aspiration, diarrhea/constipation, line infection, thrombosis, hyper/hypoglycemia, electrolyte abnormalities and refeeding syndrome.
LO5 — Document, educate, communicate and escalate nutrition-support care using multidisciplinary, culturally responsive and GCC employer-specific practice.

About this module

MOD-012 is module 2 of 5 in 1.3 Fundamentals of Care & Nutrition, inside Domain 1: Nursing Fundamentals & Clinical Essentials.

Adult nutrition-support nursing: screening and escalation, enteral access and safe feeding, tube-position safety, aspiration-risk reduction, medication administration through feeding tubes, enteral intolerance, parenteral nutrition (PN), vascular-access safety, metabolic monitoring, refeeding syndrome, complications, documentation and GCC practice.

The course runs the full NMS competency journey: a diagnostic that maps your starting point, 28 illustrated lessons built from the approved course pack, 2 branching clinical scenarios, a digital simulation, quick-reference and flashcard revision, and a 41-question summative assessment at an 80% pass mark.
